Podiatrist Will Not Seek Another Term on BoardTuesday June 27, 2000 PODIATRIST WILL NOT SEEK ANOTHER TERM ON BOARD A member of the ND Board of Podiatric Medicine cited his personal health as a reason not to seek another term on the board. Dr. Lee Hofsommer, a Fargo podiatrist, said he will not seek another term after his current term ended June 13, so he can pay more attention to some personal health issues. Hofsommer served as secretary-treasurer and also served as acting chairman during disciplinary action taken against Dr. Brian Gale, a Bismarck podiatrist. Hofsommer stood in for board president, Dr. Aaron Olson, also of Bismarck. Olson recused himself from the case due to potential conflict, because Gale was a former employee of Olson. "I kind of do agree, to some degree, with Dr. Gale. I do think there should be some turnover with the board," Hofsommer said. "We’ve had a lot of heat against the board for not changing board members," he said. But the governor’s office is responsible for all appointments to the board, he said, so the board itself has no control over length of tenure. Gale has complained that board members who investigated his case have served on the board for consecutive terms. Naomi Myrdal, executive assistant, said the governor’s office hopes to appoint a new board member within a week. |
